Is it still party time?

The Conference Board of Canada reports today that the provinces of Saskatchewan, Manitoba, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island will be the only four to experience economic growth in 2009.

"No province is immune to the effects of the global recession, but the momentum in the domestic economies of Saskatchewan and Manitoba will cushion the blow from the downturn in the resource sector," said Pedro Antunes, director, National and Provincial Forecast." (Source: today's Vancouver Sun)

There is no word yet on whether or not any of the four provinces are planning to throw a party to commemorate the occasion. My gut tells me they probably won't consider such silliness.

The same article notes that the biggest GDP drop will occur in Canada's newest "have" province, Newfoundland and Labrador, which will see a 2.6% decline in gross domestic product.

So much for weathering it all, but I digress.

Which goes back to a previous and widely misunderstood post from late last year...is it really worth celebrating the fact that you have more than your neighbour, if it looks like you have less than you had last year?
