Ryan Cleary - Idealist for hire.

"Jack Layton asked me, am I a separatist. No, I am not a separatist. Jack Layton asked me, do I believe in Canada? I believe in Canada. I have nothing to explain."

- Ryan Cleary, a few months ago, back when he needed a job.

"I don't think Canada has treated Newfoundland and Labrador fairly. I believe we'd be better off as an independent nation."

- Ryan Cleary, in today's National Post, now that he doesn't.

More on Ryan's latest antics, here.

In Cleary's defence, "separatist" and "independent nation" have different meanings in Danspeak.

Here's a Danslation: Cleary is a proud anti-separatist who believes that Newfoundland should be a strong independent nation within a determined Gucci-socialist state.
